Council Update:

– as Chair of the Lock 45 Centennial Celebrations on July 24-25th, I presented a summary of the weekend. The Friday Gala was sold out with everyone receiving tickets and Tony Clement announcing a $15K FEDNOR grant in support of the weekend. Saturday event was a huge success with over 1500 attending the lock through of antique boats.
– Jessica Gunby has been appointed Acting Clerk due to an unexpected absence of our Clerk.
– Haskett Road construction is nearing completion with some additional work planned for Crooked Bay Road. Hard topping of the road will be delayed a few years to allow the road to settle and to address other serious road problems in the Township.
– the sluice gate replacement for Stewart Lake will be delayed a year due to further Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry concerns. Staff are applying for a Provincial Infrastructure grant for the sluice gate and work on Stewart Lake Road.
– our 2015 budget projection is on track. Council provided direction to staff to keep the 2016 budget increase to 2.4% plus an additional 1.0% for capital infrastructure purposes.
– Council approved a draft Charitable Donation Receipt Policy to adhere to Canada Revenue standards and streamline auditing requirements.
– Council is still reviewing the option to record Council meetings for on-line public access. Costs are a little too high still ($10-$20K)
– the After School Programs for MacTier and Honey Harbour will charge a nominal fee of $10/student/day for the first family member and $5 for addition members starting in Oct.
– public skating in MacTier will require two on-ice monitors this year due to liability issue. The monitors will be trained.
