Wahta2This fall the Wahta Mohawks Chief & Council approved a substantial in-kind investment of a building located at 2350 Muskoka Rd. 38 for the purpose of transitioning the Nursing Station services to one of the new Muskoka Health Hubs.

In October 2011, the Wahta First Nation deemed access to quality health care a priority and generously provided 100% funding for the clinic. As of March 2015 Wahta Mohawks will have made a total financial contribution to the Nursing Station of approx. $1 million and recently the Wahta Community Trust approved an additional funding request in the amount of $330,000.00 to bring the new facility up to clinical standards. Renovations on the new facility are set to commence on February 9, 2015 and will be completed in approximately 8 weeks.

The Wahta Nursing Station has had over 3000 visits from unattached patients, and over 5500 visits in total. We will continue to welcome both aboriginal and non-aboriginal patients and provide equal access to quality health care.

During construction the Wahta Nursing Station staff will continue to be available most days via telephone to assist with inquiries, but will not be seeing patients for appointments. Staff will have access to the fax machine, maintaining the ability to review blood work, specialist reports and to renew prescription requests. Patients requiring appointments are encouraged to use any walk-in clinic or access the Moose Deer Point Nursing Station.

As we move forward with this renovation project we will be accepting donations from the public for the purchase of waiting room/exam room furniture and office aesthetics. Donations can be made at any TD bank with the following information: Branch #2033 and Account # 5004094.

We are thankful for all the donations that have been made to the Nursing Station in the past. It has allowed us to purchase an ECG machine, a phlebotomy chair and other medical supplies and equipment. We also wish to express our gratitude to the community of Wahta and both the current and past community leadership for their continued support. It has been their forward thinking vision and continued investment that has created access to primary health care for all of West Muskoka.
