While this summer wasn’t the hottest on record, it certainly felt that way. Just this week the fire rating moved back to moderate thanks to all the rain fall we have had lately. Too late, however, for us to put on the fireworks show this year. The good news is that we have everything ready to run the show next year, weather permitting of course.

SMLCA 75th Annual Regatta

The weather was perfect for our 75th regatta on August 2. The regatta is one of our most important events because we are making cherished memories for our children, and many said, once again, that it was the best ever. Thanks to Ted Mackay for organizing yet another great event, as he has for the last four years. We also want to send out a heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteers who gave up their time to serve at our 75th Regatta and especially to Kimberly Bassett Swinoga who spent many hours rounding them up.  This year we had an abundant contribution of prizes for our raffle thanks to the hard work of Lib Gibson and Pat Mitchell, and we are grateful to the many people and companies that donated prizes. Thank you as well to everyone who came out and participated. We once again had an outstanding attendance.

We also wish to thank M&M Foods, Bayfield Street, Barrie for donating all of our hot dogs and to Bala Freshmart for donating the hot dog buns and bottled water

Finally, thank you to our Platinum sponsors Wawautosa Marina, Jeffrey Braun at Corcoran Realty, and Acoustic Panels Canada, and Rowntree Appliance Service Ltd, our Silver sponsor.

Please recognize these companies with your patronage and let them know you appreciate their generosity.

Six Mile Lake Artists Tour

Heather Rennie wishes to thank everyone who came out to support the artists tour this past weekend. She says “we had an amazing (but hot) weekend for it and we hope you all enjoyed touring the lake and meeting the artists.”

SMLCA Special Resolution Meeting

Last weekend we were thankful for the cooler weather while we held our special resolution meeting to ratify our new By-law (constitution). For a few years we have been working with Denise Roberston of Mills and Mills LLP to re-write our By-law in accordance with the new Ontario Not-For-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA). Thirty members were present at the meeting and we also held thirty proxies. This engagement is important in keeping our organization ever-fresh. All motions were passed unanimously. We are thankful to Frank Boddy and the ONCA committee, as well as Denise Robertson, for their contributions to this effort.

SMLCA AM

We are looking forward to holding our AGM once again on Zoom on Wednesday October 29th at 6:30 p.m. One of the main tasks at our AGM will be to elect our board for the following year. So far, we have one vacancy next year. If you would like to make a difference by becoming a director and contributing to important decisions that pertain to our lake community, please send your nominations to info@sixmilelake.net .

Volunteers Needed

  • Fireworks Lead – Craig Cameron, our fireworks coordinator, is looking for someone to train so that they can assume this responsibility within a few years.
  • Regatta Lead – We are also looking for someone to help Ted Mackay with the regatta in 2026. This position is great for someone with organizational skills.
  • Communications Officer: There is so much more to be done with our communications, especially as we will be re-building our website, and could also do more on social media and in this monthly eblast. We’re looking for someone to create, coordinate and implement strategies for our communications activities, which include ECHOES, eblasts and social media.
  • Promotional Products Coordinator: We’re looking for someone to manage our current promotional products and to source new ones.
  • Environment Committee: We want to form a committee to focus on our environmental efforts and to coordinate articles, promotional materials and other information on subjects and services pertinent to Six Mile Lake. This is very important in maintaining the quality of our lake and in addition to volunteers sitting on this committee, we are looking for someone to chair this committee.

If you would like to help in this field please drop us a line.
