Council Update:

– in response to misinformation published by the Georgian Bay Preservation Alliance (GBPA) concerning septic inspection statistics, Staff confirmed that their inspection findings are mostly minor in nature and have never seen rare sewage on the ground. Common concerns are tree roots in septic fields, damaged delivery systems, outdoor showers, etc. Photos used by GBPA are not from our Township. An official TGB article is being prepared for cottage assoc. publications.

– TGB is applying for a Canada 150th Anniversary FEDNOR 50/50 infrastructure grant for public facilities. Projects include the MacTier Arena roof, roof for the Honey Harbour rink and a small memorial cenotaph in Port Severn.

– Bob Duncanson, GBA, provided a review of concerns and control options for Phragmites (large invasive weed). The Township is considering a mapping project to determine the spread.

– Council received further orientation on financial services, operations and recreation.

– the 2015-2018 schedule for the Mayors Golf Tournament was approved. The 2015 tournament is on Sept. 17th.

– we have received over 15 names to sit on a Community Advisory Committee to update our TGB Strategic Plan that will set the priorities for the next 4 years. Several more individuals have been added in the last few days. This Committee had 45 members last time.

– staff was requested to review the costs of recording and/or videoing Council proceedings.

– The 2015 septic inspection program was approved. Besides many following ups from last year, the new areas for 2015 include Severn River, Cognashene Lake and Go Home Bay.
– A couple of Councillors that represent the Township Recreation Portfolio will meet with the principal users of the MacTier Arena to review operational issues and explore options to increase revenue.
