Council Updates:

– The shore road allowance around the Delawana Resort was sold to the owner, except for the north beach. This will allow for needed renovations to structures formally on Township property.
– A rezoning to Restricted Commercial for BIG RED WOPKS in Honey Habour was deferred for further discussions and the purchase of the shore road allowance.
– The District will consider the installation of a 4-5 acre solar project at the Twelve Mile Lagoon and Transfer Station.
– The owner of Delewana, Adrian Conard, outlined his future concept for the property. The immediate plans are for renovations to the cabins and motel units to stand alone utility units. The future of the main structure is still uncertain.
– The need for a speed zone through Big Dog Channel in Honey Habour is still under review.
– The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry outlined their logging proposal for lands adjacent to the north end of Six Mile Lake. They are planning to release contracts to log up to 140 hectares over 3 years using Archies and Sugar Loaf Roads and the building of 3 access logging roads. Haulage will take place in the winter. Six Mile Lake Cottager’s Assoc. and Conservation members presented a list of concerns mostly related to the road usage and species at risk. Another Council meeting is planned to further review this issue.
– The Ontario Northland made a presentation concerning bus service to MacTier and Port Severn. Although the service will continue it may be cut to two stop per day (one from each direction) from the present 4.
– We might see a one day per week opening of a Health Center in our Community Service Building on Lone Pine Road in Port Severn by Sept. There is talk of Dana Straight from the Wahta Center coming down on Mondays. Stay tuned.
– Council attended a 3 hour interpersonal communication skills workshop. This should help in communications between members of Council and senior staff.
– Terms of Reference of all Township Committees and updates to our Procedural Policy will go to Council in August for approval.
– Tax payment will now only have two instalment deadlines – March 30 and August 30, unless you are on the automatic monthly instalment system.
– Ice will be installed in the MacTier Arena 1 month earlier (Sept. 14th) to try and stimulate more usage.
