-Andrew Ferguson, OPP provided crime statistics for the southern half of the Township. B & E, theft, assaults, alarms, etc were down last year. Traffic chargers were up for seatbelts, speeding and impairment.
– the Historical Society presented its history of projects within TGB including the Bressette House in Port Severn. I was then elected to Chair the new TGB Heritage Committee that will pull together all the historical societies from HH, PS and MacTier.
-in a vote of 6 to 1, the Six Mile Lake Official Plan amendment, to clarify cottage size and % shoreline frontage, was passed.
-the final 2016 tax increase has been calculated – 2.25% for combined TGB, District of Muskoka and Prov. education.
-in a vote of 6 to 1 the price of the bike lane into MacTier was increased by $32K (to $75K) and pending matching funds from the District next week the project will be completed by July 1, 2016. Funds will come from our Parks Fund which is made up from land sales (non-levy funds).
-Council passed a motion to the District to recommend that all 6 Municipality have equal representation at the Council table. Presently, the 3 Muskoka Towns can out vote the 3 Townships on any issue. We are recommending that each Municipality send 3 representatives to District Council starting in 2018. We presently have 22 Councillors.
– building staff will work towards cancelling permits that are older then 3 years that have not started construction on cottages, bunkies and single family homes.
– the inland lakes will be afforded a blasting by-law similar to what is in place on Georgian Bay. Basically blasting will be very limited in the area 20 meters back from the shoreline.
