– There was a pamphlet that has been handed out to residents in the Township concerning a potential trailer park in Macey Bay on GB. No proposal has been received to date. Council has authorized legal counsel to write a letter to the authors to correct the information they are releasing; the Township will also be releasing a memo with the facts on the Macey Bay issue.
– Bob Young, Mayor of Lake of Bays (LOB), presented a proposal for equal representation at the District Council table. LOB and TGB have 1 less vote each then the other 4 Municipalities which allow the 3 big towns to out vote the others. Council supported a proposal that the 2 Mayors of LOB and TGB have an additional vote which is allowed under the Municipal act. Each of the 6 Municipalities would then have 4 votes without the additional of 2 new Councilors.
– A three year extension was provided to Oak Bay Development for two phases to allow more time to fulfill approval conditions.
– At the request of the Six Mile Lake Cottagers’ Assoc., Council approved the withdrawal of a controversial Official Plan Amendment. Half the $2K application fee was refunded. In addition, planning staff was requested to prepare recommendations to control continued requests for larger cottages.
– Council welcomed a new Fire Chief, Treasurer and Senior Planner. For the first time in many months the Township is now fully staffed.
– An updated shoreline blasting by-law was approved that will minimize blasting in the 20 meter setback from the water for both the inland lakes and GB coast.
– Following a June 18th Community Leadership meeting of all the cottage and local interest groups, Council will follow up on a number of recommendations – by-law enforcement, additional septic inspectors, grant funding, accuracy of voter list and communications via the various groups.
– A recent review of the Municipal Election Act will move the nomination date for candidates from Jan. to May with a closing date of July 31. Council has to May 2017 to determine voting methods in TGB for the election in 2018.
– Council spent an hour of training on Freedom of Information requests.
– Staff will be reviewing the possibility of moving the Port Severn Library into the Bressette House to allow renovations to our Community Services Building for more office space. It is proposed to move the Tourist Information Office from the Bresstte House up to the PetroCanada Station next door.
