The following amazing volunteers are stepping forward for re-election. In addition, we are seeking a new Secretary and another Director to join the Board. If you are interested in volunteering to be part of this great team, please send us an email at nominations@sixmilelake.net
Frank Boddy – President – Frank has enjoyed Six Mile Lake since 1970 and has been an active participant in the SMLCA since 2007 when he co-authored the book Echoes of Six Mile Lake. For the last eight years of retirement he has been involved in helping with the Regatta, supporting the Directors throughout many initiatives, and serving as President this last year. As President Frank has worked with the By-law Review Committee to prioritized this initiative until it was presented to the members in May. He is part of the Cottage Size Survey Committee that is creating (along with other community partners) a survey that will affect the look of our lake shores for years to come. His paramount concern is and will always be the preservation our green tree lines and the quality of our blue waters. Frank believes that in two years we have come a long way to ensure that our members are heard and respected and that our lake community is working together for the benefit of all.
Denise Edwards – Vice-President: Denise comes to us with over 15 years of business management experience in the financial services sector at companies such as Tangerine Bank, Toronto Stock Exchange, Alpha Exchange and Honda Financial Services. She embodies the New Entrepreneurial Spirit. She is also the founder of her own marketing and communications company. Denise contributes her time to various non-profits including Tangerine’s Bright Way Forward partners and Sistema Huronia, (a Midland based children’s charity). Besides that, Denise has spent eight years serving on the SMLCA. She is currently responsible for the Echoes and other SMLCA communications. Her passion for preserving Six Mile Lake for generations to come runs deep to her roots as she has been on the lake since she was a baby.
Sarah McKinney – Vice President (and acting Secretary): Sarah’s family has been on Six Mile Lake since 1952. She and her husband have owned their own cottage here since 2010. Awarded the CHRL designation, Sarah has spent 20+ years as a leader in Human Resources in award-winning global organizations. She believes that HR is a profession that requires a strong code of ethics and holds high standards for truthfulness and social responsibility. No stranger to risk, Sarah now works for her family business – a move she says needed determination, adaptability, and flexibility but which has potential for great reward. She believes these traits are beneficial to the SMLCA and our evolution as an Association. Besides her service for the last 2 years as Secretary she has been instrumental in the management of the website, email communications, and Membership support. Sarah will continue acting as Secretary until another volunteer has been identified.
Gary Maidlow – Treasurer: Gary has been coming to the lake since 1956 and has owned his cottage here since 1967 and has been proud to call Six Mile Lake his home since 1997. As a Certified General Accountant, Gary has enjoyed a long career in public accounting spending his last 10 years before retirement as comptroller for a large international manufacturing company. He holds the distinction of being a life member of the CPA. Besides serving faithfully as treasurer of the Six Mile Lake Cottagers Association for the past seven years, Gary has also volunteered numerous times at the regatta and golf tournament. His desire is to continue his service to the lake community utilizing his expertise in the field of accounting.
Vince Hosick – Director: In his own words it would be Vince’s “pleasure and honour to serve the Six Mile cottagers just as my father did back in the 1970’s”. The Hosick family cottage has been the home to two generations, enjoying both summers and winters on the lake. And now Vince feels even more blessed to help see it go to their third generation “when that time comes”. With 30 years of experience in both sales and sales management as well as project management, Vince has learned the gentle art of negotiating ‘Win/Win’ interpersonal solutions. A unique skill set which includes seeing and striving to understand both sides of an issue. His contribution to the SMLCA serving on the committee reviewing the bylaws and mission statement is a testimony to his commitment to the unity of the lake. He is proud to be part of the association and feels strongly that it is now his turn to give back to the “Mile”, a community that has given him and his family so much.
Harold Toiviainen – Director: Harold has many fond memories growing up on the lake and he was fortunate to build his cottage high up on Trans Canada Bay in 2001. As a small business owner, photographer and graphic artist now nearing retirement, he feels it is time to give back to this lake community that he loves. He believes having an open minded and positive approach, taking the time to get to know one another and understanding each other’s viewpoint will make a difference in the association and the good will of whole Six Mile Lake community.
Bill Winterhalt – Director: It was first the beauty of the trees and the rocky shores that compelled Bill and his wife Kathy to become permanent residents at Six Mile Lake. They have since created a home that they share with their daughters and grandchildren and friends when they come to visit. Bill has served the SMLCA volunteering on such duties as lake cleanup, fireworks, geese control and planning liaison programs. As a retired urban planning director and civil engineer with 35 years of municipal experience, Bill will use his seasoned experience to ensure that Township zoning by-laws, official plan policies and practices protect the natural character, environment and aesthetics of our lake and rights of the individual cottager.
