SMLCA Board Bios

Frank Boddy – President – Frank has enjoyed Six Mile Lake since 1970 and has been an active participant in the SMLCA since 2007 when he co-authored the book Echoes of Six Mile Lake. For the last twelve years of retirement he has been involved in helping with the Regatta, supporting the Directors throughout many initiatives, and serving as President for two years.  As President, Frank has worked with the By-law Review Committee to prioritize this initiative until it was presented to the members last May. He is part of the Cottage Size Survey Committee that is creating (along with other community partners) a survey that will affect the look of our lake shores for years to come. His paramount concern is and will always be the preservation our green shorelines and the quality of our blue waters. Frank believes that in two years we have come a long way to ensure that our members are heard and respected and that our lake community is working together for the benefit of all.

Denise Edwards – Vice-President:  Denise comes to us with over 15 years of business management experience in the financial services sector at companies such as Tangerine Bank, Toronto Stock Exchange, Alpha Exchange and Honda Financial Services. She embodies the New Entrepreneurial Spirit. She is also the founder of her own marketing and communications company. Denise contributes her time to various non-profits including Tangerine’s Bright Way Forward partners and Sistema Huronia, (a Midland based children’s charity). Besides that, Denise has spent nine years serving on the SMLCA. She is currently responsible for the Echoes and other SMLCA communications. Her passion for preserving Six Mile Lake for generations to come runs deep to her roots as she has been on the lake since she was a baby.

Sarah McKinney – Vice President: Sarah’s family has been on Six Mile Lake since 1952. She and her husband have owned their own cottage here since 2010.  Awarded the CHRL designation, Sarah has spent 20+ years as a leader in Human Resources in award-winning global organizations.  She believes that HR is a profession that requires a strong code of ethics and holds high standards for truthfulness and social responsibility.   No stranger to risk, Sarah now works for her family business – a move she says needed determination, adaptability, and flexibility but which has potential for great reward.  She believes these traits are beneficial to the SMLCA and our evolution as an Association. Sarah manages the SMLCA website, email communications, and the Goose Management program.

Jeff Mutrie – Treasurer: Jeff is a 3rd generation cottager whose Grandparents first built on the lake back in the early ’50s.  Jeff looks forward to giving back to Six Mile much like his Grandfather did in the 1970’s.  As a CPA, Jeff has had a long career in industry and public accounting most recently as VP Taxation with a large international entertainment company.  Jeff welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the community that has given him so many lifetime memories and to assist the SMLCA in preserving the lake for the family’s 4th generation, friends and the wider SML community.

Vince Hosick – Director:  In his own words it would be Vince’s “pleasure and honour to serve the Six Mile cottagers just as my father did back in the 1970’s”. The Hosick family cottage has been the home to two generations, enjoying both summers and winters on the lake. And now Vince feels even more blessed to help see it go to their third generation “when that time comes”.  With 30 years of experience in both sales and sales management as well as project management, Vince has learned the gentle art of negotiating ‘Win/Win’ interpersonal solutions. A unique skill set which includes seeing and striving to understand both sides of an issue. His contribution to the SMLCA serving on the committee reviewing the bylaws and mission statement is a testimony to his commitment to the unity of the lake. He is proud to be part of the association and feels strongly that it is now his turn to give back to the “Mile”, a community that has given him and his family so much.

Bill Winterhalt – Director:  It was first the beauty of the trees and the rocky shores that compelled Bill and his wife Kathy to become permanent residents at Six Mile Lake. They have since created a home that they share with their daughters and grandchildren and friends when they come to visit.  Bill has served the SMLCA volunteering on such duties as lake cleanup, fireworks, geese control and planning liaison programs.  As a retired urban planning director and civil engineer with 35 years of municipal experience, Bill will use his seasoned experience to ensure that Township zoning by-laws, official plan policies and practices protect the natural character, environment and aesthetics of our lake and rights of the individual cottager.

Craig Cameron – Director:  Craig Cameron and his wife Diane have been year round cottagers on Six Mile Lake since 2009. Craig has been involved with the annual fireworks show on the lake since 2016, and served on the board since 2018. Craig is concerned with maintaining the harmonious sense of community on the lake, as well as maintaining our natural shorelines and water quality so the lake may be enjoyed by generations to come.  Craig has extensive board experience, both at the corporate and volunteer level. He ran a business employing 120 people for 35 years before his retirement in 2016, and served on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Gift and Tableware Association for over 12 years, serving 2 terms as chair during this time. He also currently is the President of his condominium corporation in his home town of Streetsville.

Laura Matthews – Director & Acting Secretary:  A SML cottager since the age of one, Laura is grateful to her adventurous parents for their decision to make a cottage– without electricity, a phone, a road or wifi – the summer homestead for her and her three sisters many years ago.  A professional communications manager in the public sector with experience in event management and a growing knowledge of land use planning policy through her work at the Local Planning Appeal Support Centre, Laura is pleased to contribute to the SMLCA as Acting Secretary.
