  • The Township is waiving fees at the Transfer Stations (Baxter and Tower Rd.) on all household large items for the months of July and August. This is a trial initiative at the request of several Cottage associations, as an attempt to reduce the abuse taking place at all of the depot bin sites. Please advise all your members about this initiative. Also, since this is directed at the taxpayers in the Township, when you attend at the transfer site, you may be asked to prove residency, either by a local license or copy of your tax bill.
  • Several of you have asked about the rumour that the District of Muskoka is planning to defray the cost of Water and Sewer infrastructure debt (~$90 Million) by charging all residents of Muskoka sewer and water fees. This is but ONE of the possible proposals, that are being reviewed at the District. The report from staff is due in late June / early July, and after receipt of the report, it will be debated at District. Our District Councillors assured Council that although the issue is a serious one for the District, that it is a little early to take a position, until the staff report has been tabled. More to follow as this unfolds.
  • The District of Muskoka is reviewing the process by which the District Chair id appointed / elected. There are several more public meetings on this topic. Please go to the District of Muskoka web site for more information.
  • Last month, Brenda Black, the Township Treasurer was appointed the additional responsibilities as Interim Director of Administration by Council. With the CAO on extended medical leave and with the departure of the Director of Community Services and Acting CAO, Council felt that it was important to assign one of the senior staff the role of “point person” for both the staff, the public and Council. Council is also initiating a review of the organization structure, roles, responsibilities and reporting lines, with the assistance of outside consultancy.
