Highlights of the activity at your Area Council Meeting:
- Field request to purchase the shore road allowance in front of Crown land adjacent to their cottage was denied. However, Township will consider a land use permit.
- Jennifer Schnier and staff were recognized for their involvement in the Just Add Water Festival.
- Council received the 2010 Financial Audit. Our net financial asset debt was $1,514,770. Our tangible capital assets sit at $19,688,096.
- Approval was provided for in-kind staff services equalling about $3,000 for the MacTier Big Weekend Festival – July 29 – Aug 1, 2011.
- Final versions of the MacTier and Honey Harbour Master Plans were approved.
- Township will be submitting a 100% grant application ($70K) for stage material that can be eventually used in all of the Township hamlets for concert events.
- Staff and the Township lawyer were instructed to finalize a blasting by-law for Cognashene in consultation with their association for the next Council meeting.
- Township will be working on a site alteration by-law that will include blasting, soil addition/removal and vegetation cover. This will involve public input.
- By-law enforcement has processed over 120 sign violations. All non-approved signs (mostly on trees) were to be removed by June 10th. This program will continue.
- Any discussion on Council remuneration was deferred. Several Councillors have serious concerns about the proposal.
- I have ask that Public Works staff coordinate with the District to identify and ultimately control the Giant Hogweed on Township property and assist private and assoc. members in education. This invasive plant in very dangerous to anyone touching or removing the plant. Google it for more details.
