Highlights of the activity at your Area Council Meeting:

  • Attached is Council’s 125 day results prepared by Larry – a must read
  • Two Baxter Ward candidates are in default of the Mun. Election Act by filing their expenses late – Kurt Woll & Mike James. They cannot run in the next election.
  • The 2011 budget was passed. Township portion increase is 2.9%. Overall increase (District + Education + Township) should be about 1.6%.
  • Township will be holding a Planning Act Training Course sometime this spring – Committee of Adjustment, Zoning By-law Amendments, Site Plan Agreements, Plans of Subdivisions, Official Plan Review & Comprehensive Zoning by-law Processes. Two members from each Assoc. are invited.
  • The public members of the Open Space Ad Hoc Committee are Al Higgs (Go Home Lake), Wendy Parker & Neil Davis (Cognashene)
  • Kim Schiefer presented the Bacteria Results for 2010. Check the GBF website for presentation later this week.
  • Bruce Hanson update Council on 2011 Water Quality Program. Funds for routine program have been approved. Now working on remedial action program for South, North and Church Bays.
  • Final Drafts of Master Plans for Honey Harbour and MacTier presented to Council. Public presentations on May 7 – MacTier in a.m. and Honey Harbour in p.m.
  • A committee to deal with senior issues has been formed – Mike Kennedy (Chair), Louise Rivett and 3 public members.
  • A Financial Advisory Committee will also be formed – Pat Edwards (Chair) and 4 qualified financial experts from the public.
