Highlights of your Area Council Meeting for September 6, 2011:
- Council has extended the contact for By-law Officer Paul Anckorn to continue to control camping on Go Home Lake until Thanksgiving weekend. From over 400 campers on the July long weekend, we were down to one camp site this pass long weekend.
- Another double boathouse on Six Mile Lake was turned down.
- Wah Wah Taysee Community Plan was again deferred at the request of the Association. Talks are very close on the final outstanding issues.
- We got an update on the development “Cottagers of Honey Harbour” in Macey Bay. Also an update note on Oak Bay – Golf Club will be open in 2012 with a swimming pool for residents. Phase 2 Townhouses and Villas will start this year.
- The Township will release a contract for solar panels on some of our buildings. This could generate much needed revenue over the next 20 years.
- Council approved a long term lease agreement with the Baxter Snow Riders for a new maintenance building on Township Property (Violet Drive, PS).
- Blasting by-law was approved for the community of Cognashene. Council also appointed myself, the Mayor and Councillor Rivett to a Committee to prepare a Site Alteration Policy that will regulate soil, rock and tree removal and control slope alterations.
- October 1st is the grant opening of the Wahta Nurse Practitioner’s office that is available to all residents in the Township. She will also spend some time in Port Severn (stay tuned).
- 2012 budget deliberations start Sept. 26. The budget will be passed at the 1st Council meeting in Jan.
- Twelve Mile Bay Road will be finished this week and the South Bay Road reconstruction has been delayed until next year due to Species at Risk concerns.
