Highlights of your Area Council Meeting for February 21, 2012:

  • a proposal to rezone an Open Space island to Shoreline Residential (Havers), in order to build a dwelling, was defeated based on size, setback, septic and environmental concerns.
  • Council approved the hiring of a new Director of Planning and Economic Development. This should occur over the next few months.

  • The Committee of Adjustment will be reconfigured to include 3 public members and 2 Councillors. A notice for public members will be sent out shortly.
  • The Ad Hoc Open Space Committee has been reinstated to oversee the public approval process for the updated Open Space By-law.
  • Council will be sending a resolution to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing requesting consideration of a100 foot setbacks for new septic systems. Presently, under the Building Code, the minimum is 30 feet. The resolution will also be set to all Ont. Municipalities requesting support.
  • A new, improved Township web site should be launched sometime in Feb.
  • Preliminary 2011 Water Quality results for South Bay, North Bay and Church Bay, Honey Harbour are now available.
  • The Township has increased its collection of overdue taxes ($1,840,325). We make 15% on penalties and interest.
  • Members of Citizen for Charge will be asked to attend the March 12th Council meeting to air their concerns that have appeared in a number of recent emails.
  • Septic inspections will occur in Stewart Lake, North Bay, South Bay and Church Bay this year. All systems will be inspected over the next 5 years.
