Highlights of your Area Council Meeting for April 23, 2012:
- Due to the length of the Council meeting, a number of issues were deferred until the next meeting (May 14) – changes to Procedural Policy, Private Road Maintenance, Storage and Maintenance Building and Appointment of Finance Review Task Force.
- The rezoning of the Rasar property on Six Mile Lake to allow the removal of the Holding Designation (environmental) on only a small portion of the 13.5 ha. property was open for public comments. The proposal today was not for the creating of 4 lots as indicated in the Environmental Report. However, with the “H” removed on a small portion, the 4 lot concept is still in the long term plans. Council will visit the slight this summer.
- A Communication Strategy was approved that will see more community updates through email blasts, social media, media relations, etc. Check out the new, improve Township web site at: www.gbtownship.ca
- We have a new Building Inspector – John Taylor.
- The MNR has thrown a major wrench into our efforts to control camping in the Township. We may have to survey the shoreline to prove Township ownership and even then we need to determine if we can control trespassing. Talks with the MNR are ongoing.
- We finally have a draft of the Ward Boundary Review. Out of 11 options, Council is supporting one option for 3 Wards and one option for 2 Wards. I will send out some material on this in the next few weeks for public comments.
- A new draft of the revised Official Plan should be available for public review in a few weeks. Another Public Meeting is required.
- Next council meeting is May. 14, 2012
