Highlights of your Area Council Meeting for June 10, 2013:

  • The Letter of Intent with Mettrum Inc, for a Medical Marihuana Research and Production Facility in the MacTier Arena was unanimously redrawn. The development with not go forward at this location.
  • Of the $96k in legal fee budget this year, $63.5 has been spent as on April 30.
  • The TGB Financial Audit is complete. We have reduced our debt from $401K in 2011 to $184k in 2012. We hope to be debt free this year.
  • Contracts have been awarded for an Economic Development Strategy and a Core Services Review. The economic strategy will focus on HH, Port Severn and MacTier to attract businesses to these communities while the core review will look at TGB services, priorities and resources to realize efficiencies, cost reductions and free up resources.
  • Dawn MacDonald provided a review of the values, visions and mission of the MacTier Community Development Committee. The committee coordinates many of the social and business activities around MacTier including the August long weekend “Big Weekend Festival”.
  • Council received water quality update presentations from the District on the Lake System Health Monitoring Program, Severn Sound Environmental Assoc. and Georgian Bay Forever. Final reports will be added to the TGB website when available.
  • A Mayor’s Breakfast will be held at the Georgian Bay Hospital in Midland on Aug. 6th in support of the hospital’s fundraising initiatives.
  • Council reviewed the final input to the 2nd draft of the Official Plan. The 3rd and final draft will be issued in mid-June.
  • The split in funding for cottage recreation grants is complete. Of the $5K available, $4K will go to summer long programs (i.e. swimming, etc.) and $1K to events (i.e. regattas, etc.) for those that apply and meet the criteria.
  • The TGB Recreation Committee will look into further opportunities to utilize the MacTier arena and reduce operating costs.
  • Next council meeting is July 8, 2013
