September 21st is the last day of summer and we have been enjoying possibly the best of them in the last few weeks. But we are reminded as the leaves start to change colour that soon we will be pulling boats from the water, raking leaves, and winterizing the cottage.

AGM Preregistration Information
The SMLCA 2024 virtual AGM will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2023 starting at 6:30 pm until 9:00 pm through Zoom.

- To be a paid-up member of the Six Mile Lake Cottagers Association (“SMLCA”) in good standing;
- There is only one vote per property as defined in Section 6.1 of the SMLCA By-laws.
- Submit your event registration before the pre-registration cut off (Oct. 14 at 5:00pm).
There will be two options for Members who want to attend or vote at the virtual AGM.
- Option 1: I want to attend and vote at the virtual AGM myself.
- Option 2: I cannot attend and vote at the virtual AGM myself and want to designate a proxyholder to vote on my behalf.
Directions for Option 1: Attending and Voting at the AGM Myself:
- Members who want to attend or vote at the virtual AGM must pre-register by completing the event registration on our new membership portal no later than Monday, October 14th, 2024 at 5:00pm. AGM Package: After successfully registering, participants will be emailed an AGM package the week of October 18th which includes the meeting link, AGM agenda, minutes, financial statements, voting procedures and motions. For those unable to join through the internet, a phone-in only option is also available. More details will come in the registration package email.
Motions: Due to the challenges of using an online platform and conducting business online, there will be no voting for amended motions or motions from the floor at this meeting. However, there will be a question-and-answer period for any questions you’d like to ask or topics you’d like to discuss. Any motion approved during the Virtual AGM that repeals, amends or adds a by-law affecting how the SMLCA functions will require (as per our By-law #4, Clause 10.2) a second special resolutions meeting of members duly called for the purpose of considering such a by-law change. Each member will have the option of speaking once, either for or against any motion, with a limit of two minutes maximum.
The board has worked hard to encourage your participation and will try to help you ‘attend’ online so that you can keep up-to-date and vote for your preferred candidate(s) and motions. If you aren’t comfortable attending a meeting online, then perhaps a family member (proxy) will agree to participate for (with) you. We hope to see you at this year’s AGM!

The SMLRA and SMLCA coming closer together
Our president, Harold Toiviainen and Dan Orchard, the president of the SMLRA have enjoyed many fruitful conversations over the summer. Both strongly agree that it is time for the two associations to share information and participate more in each other’s activities. To that end we have both taken up membership in each other’s organizations, to send a strong signal that it is time that our members put away past differences and support each other. In addition, we have set up a committee involving a director from each group, who will soon begin joint meetings to discuss synergies and bring their findings to our respective boards.
We were impressed by the SMLRA’s re-launching of their fishing derby this summer. Many children got involved and enjoyed winning an impressive array of prizes, but also learning responsible stewardship of that precious wildlife resource. Social activities such as the fishing derby help bring us all together, creating long lasting precious memories for our children and enhance our wonderful community spirit. We look forward to working with the SMLRA on this and many other social functions next year.
Clean-up crew
The lake clean-up crew is hoping you can help them clean up the camp sites at Pretty Channel on Saturday September 21 at 9:00AM. They will meet at the campsite on the left side of Pretty Channel and go from there. Any students that need their volunteer hours should bring their sheets and we can sign off right there! Contact Jamie Attwood at cleanupcrew@sixmilelake.net or call (416) 895-2932.
