This is a post of our August 2nd Email Newsletter

It is hard to believe that August is already here. It has been a great summer so far with many beautiful sunny days and tons of HEAT. With all the sunny days, however, there has been a downside with very little rain. This has brought bears closer to the shore to swim in the lake and forage for needed food out of garbage bins. It has also brought a long hold on fire bans and severe fire restrictions for the Township. We’d like to thank everyone who has been diligent about supporting the fire restrictions and making sure friends and neighbours are aware as well. I know many of us are watching the destruction in Parry Sound with the fire that now covers over 10,000 hectares and is still not under control.

Fireworks

Our 13th Annual Fireworks Show is POSTPONED until Saturday August 18th.

As we mentioned, we have fire restrictions Township wide. The Chief Fire Marshall approves this event and if the fire rating remains high or there is an active fire ban in effect, we are not allowed to have the show. Craig – our newest Director and Chair of the event has been in contact with the Fire Marshall every day this week and also keeping a watchful eye on the weather forecast. Because there has been very little rain, and there is none in the forecast, we need to postpone the show.

70th Annual Regatta

The 70th Annual Regatta will be held on Saturday August 4!

The Regatta is one of our Lake’s biggest events and includes swim and canoe races, face-painting, lucky draws, fish pond to name a few.

The Regatta is held in Regatta Bay which is located just north of the entrance to Lost Channel and starts at 10:00 am sharp.

In the event of rain, the Regatta will be postponed until Sunday, August 5th. We will post on our website and the SMLCA Facebook page by 9am on Saturday if the Regatta will be postponed.

Our Website can be found here: sixmilelake.net

Our Facebook page can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/115615919068656/

If you are participating in the races, please bring your canoe, paddles and life jackets but don’t bring your best canoe and paddles. Inevitably, there are collisions on the race course so please plan accordingly.

Come on out to watch, meet people and enjoy the events but PLEASE leave your pets at the cottage. The Regatta Site can be crowded and having animals loose on the site creates an unnecessarily dangerous environment for both people and pets.

You may also register for a SMLCA Membership and retrieve your SMLCA Directory at the Regatta.

Golf Tournament

Our 14th Annual Golf Tournament is taking place Tuesday August 7 at Bonaire Golf Course in Coldwater. This is an 18 hole shotgun format with a putting contest, cocktail hour, and dinner. You still have time to register! Please contact golf@sixmilelake.net.

Artists’ Tour

And to keep the fun going after the long weekend, don’t forget about the 2nd Annual Artists’ Tour happening August 18th from 10am to 3pm & 19th 11am to 3pm.
