A transformer at the Big Chute Generating Station failed about a month ago. The result is that the turbine has been shutdown and water is being diverted around the dam as well as into Six Mile Lake.

Ontario Power Generation expects that it will take another 2 to 3 weeks to complete the repairs. Until then, we should expect more fluctuation in water levels on Six Mile Lake than usual, particularly if there is rain in the Trent Severn Watershed.

There is an automated water level monitoring station on Six Mile Lake. You can check the lake’s water level on-line here.
