Despite the notices posted on Highway 400 and all the exits for Six Mile Lake, people continue to miss or ignore the fire ban.
A complete fire ban means that no fires are permitted at all. It doesn’t matter how careful you are or whether you have a pail of water beside your fire.
No fires of any type are permitted. No fires are permitted for cooking or warmth and no fireworks are allowed. Period!
If you see a fire along the shoreline, please report it to the Township Protection Services at 1-800-567-0187 ext. 3. If it is an emergency situation, call 911.
If you are renting your property, please inform your renters of the fire ban and what it entails.
The forest fire on McCrae Lake two weeks ago was caused by careless campers. In that case, MNR Water Bombers used Six Mile Lake to pick up water to dump on the fire. You can see the video below.
