For the past six years we have had an active Geese Management program on Six Mile Lake.
The purpose of the geese management program is to reduce the population of Canada Geese on the lake to an acceptable number so that cottagers do not lose their enjoyment of the lake. Geese return to the place where they learned to fly and will multiply exponentially on a lake.
The primary method we use to control the population is egg oiling. New eggs are oiled during the spring just after the ice breaks up.
Although the majority of geese are hatched on islands, to avoid predators, the Canadian Wildlife Service gauges support for the program by the number of property owners willing to allow egg oiling on their property.
In reality, very few cottagers have geese nesting on their properties. However, many cottagers see geese feces on their beaches, docks, grassy areas and in the water.
As with all of our programs, we need the support of the membership. You can support this program simply by completing a CWA Authorization Letter for your property.
You can give us your authorization by email.
Download this form, fill it in and save it. Then email the completed form to Neil.Munro@SixMileLake.net.
The Geese Management program is an essential part of maintaining our water quality on the lake. Your support for the program is important.
