This winter dropped a lot of snow on Six Mile Lake, over 12 feet by some estimates, and the lake ice was 3 ft thick in most locations. It will take a while for all that snow to melt and for the ice to go out.

The Canadian Coast Guard is scheduled to start ice breaking operations in Midland Bay and around Georgian Bay during the week of April 13.

The potential for flooding with the spring freshette is significant this year. You can keep an eye on water levels in the Trent Severn Watershed and Six Mile Lake in particular at Six Mile Lake Water Levels. Park Canada has a new water management information page at Water Management Updates. MNR has an information page on flooding at Floods.
