We Need Your Support NOW!

Your volunteer Directors have worked hard over the past 3 years to provide our Association transparent, inclusive leadership and many benefits to all cottagers. Now we need your help by asking you to Pre-Register by Monday Oct. 5 for the AGM to be held on Oct. 21.

Voting on the motions to be presented, and the candidates running for a Director’s position will influence the stability of your Association and the development of your lake for years to come.

The Covid situation forces us to have a virtual election, but we have worked hard to simplify the process to the point that if you are pre-registered, you can vote online without even having to attend the meeting. You should pre-register now using the fillable registration form on the sixmilelake.net website so you can have a say in which Directors represent you in the coming year and the direction the board takes as a result of the motions that have been put forward.

Directors that are standing for election are:

Current Directors Running for Re-Election:

  1. Frank Boddy
  2. Denise Edwards
  3. Vince Hosick
  4. Craig Cameron
  5. Rick Jocsak

New Director Candidates Running for Election:

  1. Harold Toiviainen
  2. Adrian Koene
  3. Jason Wilson
  4. Brian Ingham
  5. Erik Otema
  6. Bernadette Mitchell
  7. Tony Schmidt

Most SMLCA members are unaware of the campaign of criticism the Board has endured starting in the Winter. Most complaints are old issues based on rumours, misinformation, opinions and conspiracy theories. The intent of that campaign is to discredit and destabilize the SMLCA. It is designed to limit the authority and effectiveness of the SMLCA going forward with a series of motions being presented at the AGM. The SMLCA has worked with the two members who are presenting motions in an attempt to streamline the motions. We will be using a simple website program (Election Buddy) to help you vote as you wish.

The motions that these two individuals are presenting at the AGM are intended to change Bylaw #4 that we all worked so hard on between 2016-2018. By-law #4 was passed by our members in the spring of 2018 after spending almost $10 000 of your membership money having them legally approved. Those motions being presented question the interpretation of the stated Purpose in our original Letters Patent from 1957. Another motion attempts to restrict the Board’s opportunity to respond to our Municipal government unless we run a survey on each issue that comes up, and we receive approval from the majority of our members. A third motion questions our paid lawyer’s interpretation of the Ontario Corporations Act with respect to how many members are legally required to call a general SMLCA members meeting. The last motion asks that we reinstate our old Mission Statement that was never voted on by our members.

A detailed description of the motions, and an analysis of both sides of the issues, will be in your AGM information package, if you pre-register by Oct. 5.

Please review our first email reminder on Sat. Sept. 26and consider all of the pre-registration details involving proxy registrations (also required by Oct. 5). The first important step is to pre-register before 11:59pm on Oct. 5 otherwise you will not be able to attend and/or vote on AGM business. Once you are pre-registered, then you will receive the AGM package with more detailed information (the week of October 12). If you have any questions about registration, contact us directly at agm@sixmilelake.net .

The Sat. Sept. 26 email also outlines other key dates in the virtual AGM process, what you can do if you need help or have questions about registering, and some Questions and Answers about registering if you feel your cottage ownership is complicated.

The next step is to go online (https://sixmilelake.net/about/agm/) and register for the AGM before 11:59pm on Oct. 5. Use your proxy option if necessary. You will have a 3-4 hour voting window to vote for the new Board and on the motions presented on the evening of Oct. 21 from the comfort of your own home using a very simple program. Involve your family to help you vote, but take that first step of registering so you will be allowed to participate later.

Thank you for helping us keep you involved in the future decisions that will affect our lake shores and scenic vistas. If you have any general questions, please contact us directly at info@sixmilelake.net.
