Membership Fees, Fireworks Donation & Online Payments

Residents should have received the Spring Echoes last week with information about the 2019 Membership Fees and Fireworks Donations. You will notice that the Membership Form looks different this year.  This is because the new SMLCA by-laws approved June 2018 created some changes to the definition of a Member.

As of July 2018, a Member must be a registered owner of a legal lot of record on Six Mile Lake.  If a property has multiple owners (or is in the name of a corporation or trust) then the owners must nominate one owner to be the Member.  That Member will receive all vital communications and be assigned the voting rights for the property.  Should that Member not be able to attend the AGM or any other meeting of Members where they may wish to vote, they may temporarily assign their voting rights to another individual by using a Proxy Form.

As cottage ownership can be complicated, a registered owner of a property can designate a non-registered owner to be the Member for their property by submitting a Member Designation form.  Other owners or members of the family may also support our many programs and events by purchasing a non-voting Subscribers Membership.

Member forms for 2019 – including the above mentioned Proxy Form, Member Designation form, Membership Form-  will be available on the SMLCA website (sixmilelake.net) in mid-May.

Also new this year,  Membership or Subscriber Fees and donations to the annual Fireworks Show can be paid online at the SMLCA website:  https://sixmilelake.net/membership.   You need not be a Subscriber or a Member to provide a Fireworks Donation.

If you prefer to pay for your Membership or Subscriber fees and/or give a Fireworks Donation by cash or cheque, the form and instructions are included in the Spring Echoes.  Alternatively, you can pay in person at the AGM on June 22, at the Annual Regatta in August, or by giving your fees and/or donation to any current Director.

Canada Goose Management Program

The Canada Goose Management Program usually occurs one to two weeks after the ice leaves the lake. We always need more volunteers to ensure safety in two-person boat teams and to reduce the work load on the whole team.

If you think you would like to volunteer to become a team member, then contact us at goose@sixmilelake.net.  We will pair you up with a person on your part of the lake to learn the skills required to help control the goose population.

As we publicized last spring, the Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS) changed the rules for making the application for migratory bird control programs and this affects the SMLCA’s Goose Management Program.

It is necessary for us to collect Authorization Forms from Landowners to attest that there is damage and/or danger being caused by migratory birds and that they authorize and support the SMLCA in managing and controlling the goose population on our lake.  The forms are valid for 1 year or 3 years (at the option of the landowner).

The Authorization Form for Land Management Under The Migratory Birds Regulations can be found on our website here:  https://sixmilelake.net/pub/geese/2019_SMLCA_CWS_Authorization.pdf

It needs to be printed, completed in full, signed, and can be sent to us at: goose@SixMileLake.net.

If preferred, original printouts can be mailed to the SMLCA at:

Annual General Meeting and Director Nominations

The AGM will occur on Saturday June 22nd,  10 a.m. at the Baxter Ward Community Center in Port Severn.   The typical AGM Agenda includes:

  • Adoption of the agenda and previous year’s minutes
  • Presentation and adoption of the financial report and budget
  • Election of the next year’s Board of Directors
  • Board of Directors updates, guest speakers and election results.

If you would like the Board to consider putting an item on the agenda, please let us know at info@sixmilelake.net or contact a current Director.

Members wishing to run for election as a Director of the SMLCA may no longer nominate themselves at the AGM and instead must declare their interest at least 30 days prior to the meeting – through the submittal of a nomination form and related information.  This is to allow for sufficient time to let Members know who is running for office.  If you would like to run for a Director’s position then please contact us at info@sixmilelake.net or speak to any current Director. Thank you for considering to volunteer your time to support your ‘piece of the dream’.
