Annual General Meeting

The deadline for members interested in submitting a motion to be voted on at our AGM, or for those individual members who would like to submit their name to run for a Director’s position, is August 27! Please contact the Board now at info@sixmilelake.net if you are interested in becoming a Director or submitting a motion.

The AGM will be a virtual online event again this year and held on the evening of Wednesday October 27. Members who are fully paid up for 2021-2 will receive registration instructions in September, and once registered, they will receive the AGM package of materials in October. If you would like to become a member in order to join us at the AGM and vote please go to https://sixmilelake.net/membership/

Fireworks Show

The weather in August is totally the opposite of that in July, and we hope that barring an Extreme Fire Warning notification, the Fireworks Show will occur this Saturday, August 28 at approximately 9:00 pm. We remind you to drive slowly as you approach the event by water, observe the exclusion zone near the island where the show is staged, and cruise slowly with boat lights on after the show to keep everyone safe.

BeWakeAware

FOCA, the Muskoka Lakes Association and Safe Quiet Lakes have launched a new Be #WakeAware campaign to ensure all boaters are able to enjoy our lake safely and sustainably. Any wake waves near shore can cause issues for loons, docks, shorelines, swimmers and other small craft users.

Large wake boaters are encouraged to take their fun to the middle of the lake, avoid narrow, shallow or near-shore areas, and watch behind you to understand the impact of your waves. All small power boat users can help as well by keeping your speeds below 10 km/h when entering narrow channels where you are within 30 metres from shore and by getting up on plane quickly when changing from low to high speed.

Visit the campaign webpage at www.BeWakeAware.com, and share the link as well as the #WakeAware hashtag on your own social networks.

Golf Tournament

After careful and repetitive review of the provincial guidelines, golf course rules limiting the size of groups gathering indoors, and observation of increasing Delta Covid-19 cases, the Board has decided not to hold a golf tournament this year. We hope we will be back to more normal summers in the future and look forward to hosting the annual regatta (with vaccinated youngsters?) and a full golf tournament as we have done in the past.

What’s Next?

Although August is coming to a close, there is plenty of summer left at the lake. Your Board will be busy well into the fall with a brainstorming session to look for creative solutions to the Landowners’ Survey results, holding a Town Hall virtual meeting to keep our members and others up to date on possible Official Plan changes and surveying members to collect their opinions about those possible changes. Stay safe by boating responsibly and respecting the rights and personal boating space of others.
