2021 Virtual AGM – Election & Motions Results

Thanks to everyone who attended the AGM last night and voted. It was rewarding to see so many Members participate and have their voice heard.

We’re well represented with an acclaimed board of 7 returning Directors from last year and 2 new Directors. Below is the list of volunteers that were elected to the 2021/2022 Board of Directors:

  2. Denise Edwards (Returning Director)
  3. Rick Jocsak (Returning Director)
  4. Craig Cameron (Returning Director)
  5. Bernadette Mitchell (New Director)
  6. Jason Wilson (Returning Director)
  7. Brian Ingham (Returning Director)
  8. Ted MacKay (New Director)
  9. Dawn Hentz (New Director)

The results of the Officers election saw the following individuals acclaimed to their roles:

  • Harold Toiviainen (President)
  • Denise Edwards (Vice-President)
  • Rick Jocsak (Vice-President, Treasurer)

The results of the four (4) Member raised motions and five (5) Board raised motions are as follows:

Motion #6 David Opheim (Member) I move that the SMLCA will cease the practice of an annual fireworks display.

Defeated (90.6%)
Motion #7 David Opheim (Member) I move that the SMLCA will ban the use of all fireworks by cottagers/residents of Six Mile Lake. 

Defeated  (92%)
Motion #8 David Opheim (Member) I move that the SMLCA will strike a committee tasked to thoroughly investigate ways in which to establish guidelines for the types of power boats that can be safely used on Six Mile Lake without causing harm to all wildlife; power and noise being specific areas for investigation.

Defeated   (79%)
Motion #9 Gordon Vandevalk (Member) I move that the SMLCA create a committee to investigate the issue of providing improved High-Speed Internet (HSI) (ideally high-speed internet service) to cover the Six Mile Lake area, leveraging where possible, existing cell towers and lobbying applicable authorities (e.g., service providers and federal/provincial/local governments).

Passed  (94.3%)
Motion #10 SMLCA 2020/2021 Board I move that the SMLCA move the Annual General Meeting of the Association to a fully virtual meeting going forward.

Passed (76.2%)
Motion #11 SMLCA 2020/2021 Board I move that the SMLCA move the annual general meeting of the Association to October each year as opposed to June.

Passed    (93%)
Motion #12 SMLCA 2020/2021 Board I move that the SMLCA adopt the following vision statement: “Promoting choices today that build on Six Mile Lake’s legacy of a thriving community and supporting a sustainable natural environment.”

Passed (76.4%)
Motion #13 SMLCA 2020/2021 Board I move that the SMLCA adopt the following mission statement: “Serving Six Mile Lake and our Members since 1940. We represent our members by: Educating and communicating; Advocating for common causes and goals; Helping our members build memories; Delivering programs that support safety & sustainability”.

Passed    (80%)
Motion #14 SMLCA 2020/2021 Board I move that the SMLCA adopt the following community values: “As Six Mile Lake Stewards: We encourage safety, responsibility and sustainability. We listen to each other and treat each other with open kindness, respect, dignity and care. We take personal accountability to ensure our lake is free of harassment and discrimination, fostering goodwill. We are transparent and work together to ensure there is good governance.”
