Highlights of your Area Council Meeting for July 4, 2011:
- Report from closed session: District will share 50% of the cost for our Neighbourhood Community Service Coordinator for the remainder of the year.
- Report from closed session: The Township will outsource the review of variances for the Committee of Adjustment. This will free up staff. Costs will be recouped from the applications.
- Blasting By-law specifically for Cognashene Community was defeated mainly due to the concern that it did not include blasting to facilitate proper drainage.
- Library was awarded $7K from community development funds to complete some shelving.
- Committee of the Whole reviewed the 1st draft of the new Open Space By-law. It will restrict all types of development, including docks, on vacant open space small islands. Comments were made that existing structures could be maintained but not expanded.
- Per Diems for council members is getting out of hand due to all the Ad Hoc and extra committees that members are required to attend. The cheapest option is to pay each councillor $300 extra per month. This option will go to the next Council meeting for approval.
- Have you noticed less commercial signs on trees around the Township? The By-law officer has removed over 140 signs to date and more to come. Some companies were no longer in business. Call the office if you see them go back up.
- Councillor Hanson updated Council on the 2011 water quality program. I will forward his report when I receive it.
- Next council meeting is July 25th
