Highlights of your Area Council Meeting for May 13, 2013:

  • a number of MacTier residents and media showed up to hear the latest on the MacTier medical marijuana issue despite the topic not being on the agenda. Residents and media were assured that the proposal for the arena was dead but that the proponent, Mettrum, is still looking for a site within the Township, serviced by municipal water.
  • Mayor Braid reported on his 7th 125 report on TGB activities. Check it out at: www.gbtownship.ca/content/mayors-desk
  • the by-law to allow permanent dock extensions for HH and shorelines south to Port Severn was put on hold to further allow discussion of a 3 year temporary permitting system. This was passed at the Committee of the Whole and will come to Council for final approve on July 8th. The emergency for dock extensions has been relieved due to recent water level increases. In addition, the Committee approved the removal of ramps from the calculation of dock length.
  • lot coverage density for Go Home Lake was increase to 10%.
  • Council rescinded their earlier decision to cancel the $5k cottage association recreational grant. Councillor Edwards and I will discuss the proportioning of the grant between programs and events before the next Council meeting.
  • the children splash pad in the Port Severn park will under go modifications taking it from a recirculation system to a once through municipal water system.
  • the final average tax increase which includes District, Township and Education will be 3.1% for 2013.
  • the final draft of the OPA will be issued on June 17. Council will hear final public comments at a special meeting on July 27th.
  • there will be minor modifications to the HH public docks to gain more docking space due to the low water.
  • Council approved the retention of a consultant to conduct a peer review of the Ward Boundary 2, 3 and 4 ward options. This issue is going to the OMB due to an application request by Nick Hodson to support a 2 ward option or an additional councillor to Baxter Ward in the present 3 ward option.
