Highlights of your Area Council Meeting for May 14, 2012:

  • Council met for over 10 hours yesterday – here are the highlights…
  • The new public members of the Committee of Adjustment were announced – Mike Ferguson, Jeff Child, Jim Bowden and Tom Hill. They will join Councillor Rivett and Wiancko.
  • The shore road allowance was closed in front of the Field cottage only. Shore road closure in front of their adjacent crown land was denied.
  • The Integrity Commissioner (Harold Elston) filed his final report (Wiancko) and recommendations (see attached). Code of Conduct complaints against Councillor Rivett, Wiancko and Mayor Braid were either dismissed or found to be vexatious. Reports are on the Township website.
  • The Finance Review Committee laid by Councillor Edwards has been reinstated.
  • A one year extension to the interim Open Space By-law was approved. This issue should be resolved this summer.
  • A license of occupation was approved for road side property in front of the new PetroCanada station in Port Severn (under construction) subject to site plan approval.
  • Steve Cartwright from Macy Bay presented a report on Eurasian Milfoil harvesting. Councillor Hanson and myself will be organizing a seminar on this invasive weed in June to assess District concerns and control options.
  • Private road assumption was again discussed. The Public Works portfolio will review further.
  • Staff will work with cottage and community organizations on an updated voter’s list and potential election methods.
  • An enforcement plan for camping on Go Home Lake was approved. Parking will be controlled as a short term option. Shoreline surveys and a stewardship program are considered long term options.
  • The amended Noise By-law was sent back for review. A recent opinion poll was split between the need for some control of fireworks noise and no ban at all.
  • Next council meeting is June 4, 2012
