- Brian, Mcrae, Fed. of Anglers and Hunters, presented a case for Sunday hunting in TGB during the spring and fall seasons. Council will debate the issue at its June meeting but, in the past, have turned it down due to our seasonal population.
- Council approved staff in-kind support for Canada 150 events. They also approved banners for lamp posts in all the communities and an additional $5K to Gloucester Pool Assoc. for the Port Severn Family Event on July 1st.
- Auditor (BDO) approved an overview of our 2016 expenses. There is still a need to continue to address our capital asset accounts.
- A number of minor amendments were made to our Zoning by-laws while others were held back for further review (i.e. docks in sensitive areas).
- Council approved a 2 year program to replace storm sewers in MacTier between Joseph St. and Fern Av. The lower section will be undertaken in 2017. Council will discuss funding options in June (debt, capital or combination).
- June is Senior Month in Ontario under the theme “Living Your Best Life”.
- Council approved a $500 grant to the Coldwater Steampunk Festival being held in August
- The Townships of Georgian Bay, Muskoka Lakes and Lake of Bays continues to retain a consultant to lobby the Prov. to change the Police Services Act to allow billing by services provided, not by total assessment. Through the District, the Townships are paying 67% of the bill when they only incur 20% of the service. This is a $4M subsidy to the Towns.
- The Ontario Northland bus is considering changing its stop in MacTier from downtown to the corner of High St. and Lake Joseph Road.
- Councillor Edwards was found in violation of the Council Code of Conduct on two issues by the TGB Integrity Commissioner (IC) – inappropriate outburst accusing the Mayor of conflict on the Macey Bay file (Rule 4(b)) and berating, harassing and bulling of staff in contravention of the TGB Respectful Workplace Policy ( Rule 5 of the Code). Council approved the IC recommendations – public reprimand (via a resolution), suspension of salary for 30 days and refrain from communications with staff except through the CAO on most issues until Jan. 1, 2018. Council Edwards indicated that he will appeal to the Ontario Ombudsmen Office.
- Our Fire Dept. will act independently from the District in changing the fire rating for TGB. Last year we were bone dry while the rest of Muskoka was moderate.
