Highlights of the activity at your Area Council Meeting:

  • Public provided comments on the Wah Wah Taysee Official Plan Amendment – plan should be back to Council in July for approval once comments are included.
  • Cognashene Cottager’s Assoc. presented their community by-law on blasting. Council requested staff to finalize the by-law for our next meeting.
  • An Ad-Hoc Blasting Committee was approved with 2 Councillors (myself and Pat Edwards), one inland, one Bay and one expert members.
  • The Baxter Snow Riders Club House site was approved for Violet Road. The lease is yet to be negotiated.
  • Tenders for major work on Haskett Road (Six Mile Lake) were approved.
  • The tax rate was set – average increase will be 1.42%. The Township 2011 budget is $7.5M of with $4.2 is collected from taxes. The difference of $3.3M comes from Gov. grants, sale of Township lands, building permits, etc. District takes an additional $7.9M and Education $5.2M of your hard earned money.
  • An interim open space island by-law was passed. This freezes any further building requests until the Ad-Hoc Committee finishes their review.
  • Staff will review the environmental requirements to open up Church Bay, Honey Harbour by dredging the old boating channel to facilitate circulation.
