Council Update:

  • Legal Counsel has clarified that Council members on the Committee of Adjustment need to be appoint each year, while public members are approved for the term of Council
  • Rawley Resort has donated $700.00 from the proceeds of their Oct. Euchre Night to be split between the local food back and the Baxter monthly senior luncheon,
  • a presentation was made on the new fees charged for the MacTier After School Program. When it was free, we had 30 kids. When we started to charger $10 for the first and $5 per additional family child per day the enrolment dropped to 5 kids. This program is under review.
  • Sunday hunting in the Township continues to be band.
  • staff will apply for an Ont. grant to conduct a Rural Economic Development Program for business retention and expansion in MacTier next year. Honey Harbour was completed this year. These studies can provide direction to communities to expand their business and can open up Ont. funding options that would not otherwise be available without this assessment.
  • the Library CEO will be retiring in 2017 and a succession plan has been put in place. To obtain a new CEO, a salary adjustment may be necessary.
  • The Integrity Commissioner will be retained to determine if the Councillor Code of Conduct has been breached as a result a number of inappropriate and derogatory emails sent out by members of Council to staff, the public and other Councillors over the last year.
  • Council postpone the formation of a public Planning Committee until after all the OMB appeals to the new Zoning Bylaw are heard in Feb. 2016.
  • our 3rd quarter budget expenditures are on track for 2015 at 75% spent.
  • the $14,500 profit from the 2015 Mayor’s Golf Tournament will be split 50% to the Port Severn Nursing Station and the other 50% split 3 ways to the Midland Hospital, Barrie Hospital and Sick Kids Hospital.
  • 2015 cottage recreation grants have been approved – Cognashene, Honey Harbour, Go Home Bay each get $1,000 for their weekly summer programs and Six Mile Lake, Stewart Lake and Gibson Lake each get $333 for their 1 day regattas
  • Council received training on By-law enforcement for property standards, building and planning violations. A public information session is planned for next year.
