Highlights of your Area Council Meeting for November 7, 2011:

  • You probably have noticed the new Petro Canada station being blown out of the rock in Port Severn. Council turned down a request to increase transport truck parking at the station that would occur adjacent to Lone Pine Road. These parked trucks would not compliment the recent beautification of the area.
  • Council passed a resolution that would allow solar panels on our service buildings (fire hall, arena, etc) but not our administration facilities (offices, Bressette House and libraries).&
  • We updated our Procedural Policy by assigning each Councillor oversight responsibilities. I will have Planning, Economics and Building Services. Please contact me if you have any issues.
  • We received a draft presentation of the Township Strategic Plan with vision and strategies. This will be finalized before years end and implemented in the budget and all programs going forward.
  • Council supported a local initiative for an 8 week Township wide sailing school on Gloucester Pool to begin next year. Details will be worked out with staff.
  • Staff will investigate the logistics and benefits of dredging the sand spit in Church Bay, HH to improve water circulation. Hopefully this will occur next year.
  • Pending budget approval, the Township will re-instate the septic inspection program starting with Stewart Lake, South and North Bay and Little Lake (Gloucester Pool).
  • The Mayor’s Golf Tournament made $5,150.00, equally split between the Royal Vic Hospital in Barrie and Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto
  • Our grant request was successful for a 30 X 40 foot portable stage that will be available for local events. Rentals will bring in much needed revenue.
  • Next council meeting is November 28th
