Council Update:
– Conrad and Donna Huber presented a $21K check to the Township for the start up of the Port Severn Health Centre. SEGBAY presented a $1.9K check for the same facility. The Health Hub will open for 1 day a week (Mondays) starting Oct. 5, 2015. It is located in the Community Services Building next to the Township Offices.
– Council finally past updates to their Committees Terms of Reference and Procedural By-laws
– New updated approvals that correspond to recent Provincial Regulations for ATVs on Township Roads were passed.
– Staff is reviewing the quotes for the boat launch at the Port Severn Park that have doubled. Efforts will be made to keep the cost at the 2015 budget level ($45K).
– A Dark Sky By-law was approved that will help enforce future lighting restrictions.
– Council is moving forward with a plan to stream audio and video of Council meetings
– Councillors Douglas and Bochek, with staff assistance, have agreed to form a Property Standards Assessment Committee to explore options to ensure clean-up compliance around the Township. I have agreed to Chair the Property Standards Appeal Committee with 4 public members to adjudicate appeals.
– Speed limits on South Gibson Lake Road will be reduced from 60 km/h to 50 km/h.
– I have agreed with staff that I will be mapping all the locations of Phragmites on District and Township roads and in parks over the next month.
– Senior staff and most of Council toured many Township facilities on Sept. 15th ahead of up coming budget discussions.
– On Sept. 16th Council held a Community Strategic Planning meeting to review our Mission and Vision Statements, set priorities for the next 4 years and establish success indicators.
