Highlights of your Area Council Meeting for September 26, 2011:

  • We have lost our full time By-law Enforcement Office and a new one will be advertised shortly.
  • We have a new org. structure for the Public Works/Facilities/Recreation Dept. It is now the Operations Dept. and will have north and south supervisors.
  • Council is reviewing the performance of the Ad Hoc Committees. In my view, information to Council is running months behind Committee decisions.
  • We are adding solar panels to several TGB facility roofs next year. This will generate an up front payment to the TGB of $124,600 in 2012, an additional $48,060 each year for 20 years starting in 2012 and not cost the TGB a penny.
  • After many years and 4 public meetings the Wah Wah Taysee Official Plan was approved. Congratulations.
  • 2012 Budget Guidelines were approved. We will attempt to keep the increase in line with the Ont. CPI (3.2%) plus 1% to cover our capital shortfall.
  • Blasting by-law was approved for the community of Cognashene. Council also appointed myself, the Mayor and Councillor Rivett to a Committee to prepare a Site Alteration Policy that will regulate soil, rock and tree removal and control slope alterations.
  • New user fee increases were approved at the Council of the Whole (CoW).
  • CoW approved a septic inspection program to target areas of concern starting with Stewart Lake. We will be looking at historical bacteria water quality results to target other areas.
  • A new TGB website will be launched in Jan.
  • Committee of Adjustment may be rescheduled monthly on a new day (i.e. on Fridays) and involve public members.
  • Next council meeting is October 17th
