In December, following a long trail of paperwork, we received our permit from the MNR to allow removal of Eurasian Water Milfoil (EWM). There are several conditions to the permit, the most important being that removal is not allowed before July 16th. This is to protect fish spawning as well as native plant growth.
Now that we have the permit we are going to need help from the lake community. The lake association is not going to come to your dock and remove the weeds for you. However, we will train you on how to identify EWM and how to properly remove it and dispose of it.
Currently we have planned for two training sessions on July 19th and 26th. You can sign up for the training by sending your name, location and preferred date to EWM@SixMileLake.net.
If you don’t go through the training then you are not covered by our work permit. Please don’t go out on your own. Indiscriminately raking or pulling all weeds from the water is bad for the lake and will jeopardize our permit. Sign up for the training and learn how!
