GFA Town Hall meeting

As mentioned in our last email update, we’ve been trying to get both lake associations to partner on a joint recommendation for changes to our current Gross Floor Area (GFA) building restrictions. We’re close to finalizing the Townhall date and opening up registration. This Townhall meeting will provide all cottager owners an opportunity to discuss proposals for change to the Georgian Bay Township Official Plan and Zoning By-law.

A full email outlining the details will be coming shortly. We strongly encourage all property owners to register so that you can receive the information package and follow up poll as well as (optionally) participate in the live Townhall meeting. We’ll be posting a recording of the Townhall for any that can’t attend live.

Broadband Survey

The Broadband Internet Committee is developing a Request for Information (RFI) which will be submitted to local internet service providers who service the SML area, both large and small. Our goal is to convince one of the providers to focus on the SML area to provide quality Broadband service to all of Six Mile Lake. In order to complete the RFI, we require some statistical information, and have developed a survey which will be available on the SMLCA website at www.sixmilelake.net. We request that as many residents of the lake as possible complete the survey, with 1 survey per property. Because we would like to get the RFI out as quickly as possible, there is only a brief amount of time to complete the survey. Please log on to https://sixmilelake.net/new/broadband-survey/ (direct link to survey) and complete the survey by February 17, 2022

Six Mile Lake Summer Fair

Our committee is sorry to report that due to the uncertainty that Covid variants are causing us, we are finding it impossible to make commitments in order to properly plan for the social this year. Therefore, we will be postponing it until 2023.

Regatta Dock Fundraising Campaign

Our fundraising effort to replace one of our Regatta docks is underway. We use this dock to conduct the swim races for the children and young adults at the Annual Regatta. We’ll need to raise $10,000 before the beginning of May in order to be able to have the dock built in time for the Regatta. We’ve received an anonymous donation of $2,500 which puts us at 25% of our goal. If you can donate, any amount helps. You can donate now on our website by clicking https://sixmilelake.net/asp-products/dockdonation/.

Wauwatosa Trading Post Is Under New Ownership

We’ve been advised that as of January 20th, Wauwatosa Trading Post and Marina has been sold to Maple Leaf Marinas Holdings GP Inc (MLM). Brian and Steven Skalitzky, would like to thank everyone for their patronage, and they encourage you to welcome MLM as the new owners at Wawautosa Trading Post. We wish Brian, Steven and families well and thank them for their contribution to the lake community.

Be Safe Out on the Ice

The SMLCA board hopes you will enjoy the splendour of winter at the lake but please be cautious when venturing out on the ice, especially if you decide to go beyond the marked snowmobile trails. Regardless of ice thickness, there are always danger spots due to currents.
