Georgian Bay Township Zoning By-law Review

Representatives from both Six Mile Lake associations met with the mayor, councillors and planning staff to discuss progress on the upcoming Zoning By-law review that will begin in 2026. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss GFA building size issues on Six Mile Lake. The main issue is that most potential development falls within the legal non-conforming section of the existing Zoning By-law (Section 4-11), because older dwellings that are closer to the shoreline than the current setback are being re-developed and therefore existing by-law parameters do not apply to them. The planning department is waiting for feedback from Muskoka District on this issue and so we will re-convene in February 2026 to further discuss this matter. Stay tuned.
