AGM Update

Registrations for our Annual General Meeting on Oct. 27 are now closed. We are pleased that meeting virtually has again increased our normal AGM in-person attendance figures. All registrants have been confirmed by email and have received their registration packages. Virtual meetings seem to make it easier for members to attend and participate through self-nominations and providing motions for the AGM.

All registrants were sent the registration information package by email on Oct. 19, and they will receive their Zoom meeting invitation on Oct. 25. Check your spam filter or contact us at agm@sixmilelake.net if you do not receive these items on those dates. All members will receive the voting results of the AGM election and motions, and they will be posted on our sixmilelake.net on Oct. 28.

Archive Committee

The first meeting of the new Archive Committee was held on Sept. 26, and co-chairs Barbara Walters and Brian Heyland are creating a structure and organization for integrating our previous ten years of electronic records onto our website, scanning and saving important paper files prior to 2010, and looking for new historical items (stories, photos, movies/videos). If you have anything to donate, they can be reached by email at archives@sixmilelake.net .

Survey Results and Official Plan Review

For the last eight months, we have been busy working on an action plan for the results of the 2019 Landowner Survey. We have reviewed the Wetherell report recommendations (see Summer Echoes newsletter) and have hired Victoria Lemieux, the former head planner for Georgian Bay Township, to develop a plan based on the survey results which will be submitted to the township. Part of her work will be to hold a brainstorming think tank session in early November to develop creative solutions to the GFA issues. This will be followed by a virtual Townhall Meeting to discuss the possible proposals and how they might affect existing by-laws. We also intend to follow up via a survey of our members to help us obtain consensus of how these new proposals are received by our members. We understand the township will be reviewing their Official Plan and Zoning By-law early in 2022, so we have to act fast.

The new Six Mile Lake Summer Social

A few weeks ago, we held our first planning meeting to launch a new social event in June at the Baxter Community Centre. Imagine something like the Cottage Life Show, a farmer’s market, an outdoor beer tent and entertainment area combined. There will be informative exhibits from organizations such as the Severn Sound Environmental Committee, and the township. Both lake associations can have tables to sell their memberships, swag, and association information.  Local artists and crafts people can sell their work. Vendors such as contractors, appliance repair, real estate agents, marinas, service providers, internet, insurance, investment, cottage maintenance and cleaning and more can purchase exhibit tables. Restaurants, caterers, coffee shops, and other food and drink vendors, food trucks and local craft breweries can promote and sell their products. Local musical talent and buskers will be encouraged to perform. It will surely be a memorable event which will bring us together.

Help Wanted

We are still looking for volunteers to help us keep our website up to date and to work with us on our various communications related projects such as writing content for Echoes. If you would like to know more or would like to help please contact us at info@sixmilelake.net .

SMCA Flags

The newly designed SMLCA logo flag has been spotted at select cottages around the lake. There are three of these 36” x 72”, ‘blue on white’ flags left for purchase ($65). If you are interested in one for yourself or a Christmas present, contact us at info.sixmilelake.net.
