Important Joint Announcement
Dear Six Mile Lake Landowners,
There are less than three weeks left to register for the SMLCA virtual Town Hall Meeting to be held on Tuesday, April 26 2022. Pre-registration will close on April 7, 2022 at 11:59pm.
As you may know, the 2019 Six Mile Lake (SML) community survey, which had robust participation by 54% of landowners, strongly indicated that the majority would like the Gross Floor Area (GFA) restrictions relaxed. Converting the results of the survey into actionable recommendations has been a long and frustrating process. In an effort to help things move forward, the SMLCA and the SMLRA have both engaged planning consultants, and have been having discussions regarding the possibility of the two planners working together to develop a joint report that could be presented to the residents of SML for their input.
The original intention was to have a Town Hall meeting where the planners would present their recommendations and the community could ask questions and get clarifications. The results from the Town Hall meeting would then be sent to Georgian Bay Township (GBT) as input to changes to the relevant By-laws.
Recently, both associations received a letter from the Mayor of GBT outlining a possible plan for the Township to move forward with modifying the Official Plan and Zoning By-laws. He indicated that, while it would be good for both associations to come up with a combined report, it was not absolutely necessary. Further, he said GBT would welcome all viewpoints and comments from the community as a whole, as input for modifying lakefront property By-laws. However, he also noted the process of making any modifications would take a considerable amount of time.
Last week, Peter Olar (SMLRA) and Harold Toiviainen (SMLCA) had several conversations regarding the Mayor’s letter and mutually agreed, that due to the fact that the TGB process would be longer than anticipated, and that the two planners had not been able to agree on a cohesive set of recommendations, that at this point, it would be more beneficial to hold two separate Town Hall meetings where each planner would have ample time to present their viewpoints. They also agreed to promote and attend each other’s Town Hall meetings to help engage as many residents of SML as possible to gather input to the TGB By-law amendment process.
This Gross Floor Area (GFA) Town hall is open to all property owners on Six Mile Lake and these owners don’t need to be a member of either the Six Mile Lake Cottagers Association or the Ratepayers Alliance to pre-register. However, only one person per property will be admitted.
To pre-register, please visit the SMLCA website at sixmilelake.net/news/2022townhall .
This will be your opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification on the impact of various approaches. The meeting recording will be posted on the SMLCA website after the townhall and there will be a poll which will be live for a few weeks to give everyone time to review the package and the recording and let the SMLCA know your opinions.
Please register and let the SMLCA hear your voice and please pass this email along to anyone you may know. The more property owners they can engage, the better. As always, if you need any help with pre-registration, please contact info@sixmilelake.net.
Important! You must register to either come to the town hall or to vote.
