We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the volunteers who comprise the 2016 SMLCA Board of Directors.
Marguerite Locke – Director, President: Marguerite is a long time cottager on Six Mile Lake arriving with her family in 1956 and now enjoying the treasures of the Lake with her adult children and grandchild. Marguerite spent her career in the insurance industry owning and operating an independent Insurance Adjusting business in the GTA for over 20 years. She has years of experience working through difficult and conflicting situations and is considered by peers to be open minded, fair, and reasonable. She is an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity in Toronto and also volunteers on humanitarian projects with Hands Across the Nations in South America. Her focus in the years she has volunteered with the SMLCA has been to protect the “blue and green” that we all cherish.
Frank Boddy – Director, Vice-President: Frank started enjoying summers at Six Mile Lake in 1970 eventually building his own cottage in 1985. Much has changed since this era of no roads and no phones but his appreciation of the blue waters, evergreens, and rock has grown every year. After retiring from teaching he was part of the research and writing team for the book “Echoes of Six Mile Lake” enabling him to get to know and share the stories of many families on the lake. Frank has served 5 years on the Association working with an enthusiastic team who have demonstrated their voluntary community involvement in a variety of programs and activities. Environmental stewardship to keep Six Mile looking beautiful is his goal for our future.
Denise Edwards – Director, Vice-President, Marketing & Communications: With over 15 years experience, Denise has held various management roles within the financial services sector at Tangerine Bank, Toronto Stock Exchange, Alpha Exchange and Honda Financial Services. Denise embodies the entrepreneurial spirit and has her own marketing & communications company. Denise contributes her time to various non-profits including Tangerine’s Bright Way Forward partners, Sistema Huronia – a Midland based children’s charity (3 years), and SMLCA (6 years). Denise has been on the lake since she was six months old and has a deep passion for preserving Six Mile Lake for generations to come.
Liz Hurley – Director, Membership: Liz has been managing SMLCA Membership for 16 years having picked up the legacy from her father who ran membership in the 60s. Liz came to the lake when she was 10 years old. In her teens she went from property to property mapping cottage locations with her father for the lake map. She helped run the Junior Six Mile Lake Association, organized lake dances on Saturday nights, and wiener & corn roasts on long weekends. In 1992 she organized the first “Where were you in ‘62” event which had an amazing 11 year run. Never one to shy away from volunteering time and effort, Liz helped organize the first SML MS Walk at the Provincial Park which ran for 6 years.
Gary Maidlow – Director, Treasurer: Gary has been coming to the lake since 1956, has been a property owner here since 1967, and has called Six Mile home since 1997. With his designation as a CGA, he began his career in public accounting, spent his last 10 years before retirement as comptroller for a large international manufacturing company, and is now a life member of CPA. He has served faithfully as treasurer of the Six Mile Lake Cottagers Association for the past 5 years, volunteers each year at the regatta and golf tournament, and if elected, will continue his service to the lake community, using his expertise in the field of accounting.
Sarah McKinney – Director, Secretary: Sarah’s family has been on Six Mile Lake since 1952 and she has been a cottage owner herself since 2010. Awarded the CHRL designation, Sarah has spent 25 years as a leader in Human Resources – a profession that requires a strong code of ethics and which holds high standards for truthfulness and social responsibility. She is the newest member of the Association having joined as Secretary in March of this year.
Neil Munro – Director: Neil has been on the lake for 51 years having first come here in 1965. He has a spouse and 3 children as well as several grandchildren who all enjoy the lake.
