The Six Mile Lake Cottagers Association has engaged both the township and the district regarding the proposed changes and has successfully persuaded them to explore other options rather than simply reducing the number of disposal sites and their hours of operation. These options include, but are not limited to:
- Installing more monitoring cameras with integrated loudspeaker systems to challenge people dumping illegally.
- Extended weekend hours, including 24 hour operation from Sunday morning to Monday morning, to accommodate different commuting schedules.
- Removal of dumping fees at the Baxter Transfer Station during July and August.
Each of us needs to be responsible with the existing bin sites if we want to keep the convenience of these bin sites.
If we abuse the existing system, we will lose it.
The SMLCA, in cooperation with the District of Muskoka, created a one page flyer that illustrates some of the abuses
