As part of our ongoing water quality initiatives, we are planning to survey the shoreline of Six Mile Lake for invasive aquatic plants, Eurasian Milfoil in particular.
Six Mile Lake covers an area of 3640 acres (1473 hectares) and has 133 km of shoreline. We need help to survey the lake effectively.
Our intention is to survey the lake in late July and early August when the weed population is at its peak. Surveying will involve canoeing or kayaking along a portion of the shoreline, recording. collecting and identifying samples and snorkeling in sections of the lake.
Once this survey is complete, we will report back to the membership on the extent of Eurasian Milfoil on the lake and potential control options.
You can download an information sheet about Eurasian Water Milfoil at Milfoil InfoSheet.pdf or read about it on-line at www.invadingspecies.com.
