Dock Campaign

We desperately need your help to raise funds for the replacement of one of the floating docks used for the children’s and young adult’s swim races at our annual regatta. The old dock was unsafe and has been scrapped. We will have to raise the funds by the beginning of May so that we can have the dock built in time for the Regatta, at the beginning of August. The lack of a dock will seriously affect the number of children we can have in our swim races at the Regatta. If you log onto our website at https://sixmilelake.net/asp-products/dock-donation/ you can donate online. As little as $50 can make a big difference.

Town Hall meeting

There are less than two weeks left to register for the virtual Town Hall Tuesday, April 26 2022, which is open to anyone with a property on Six Mile Lake. The Gross Floor Area (GFA) Town Hall is open to all property owners and these owners don’t need to be a member of either the Six Mile Lake Cottagers Association or the Ratepayers Alliance to pre-register. However, only one person per property will be admitted.

To register, please visit our website at sixmilelake.net/news/2022townhall .

Registration will close on April 7, 2022 at 11:59pm.

Archive Donations

The Six Mile Lake Cottagers Association is gathering information about the history of our lake. We would appreciate hearing your family’s story about the early days on the lake or your experiences when you became a cottager on the lake. It seems we do not have copies of the 1958, 1960, 1961, 1962 and 1963 Echoes issues. Please let us know if you have any of these. If you have old photos slides and negatives, we can scan them and return them safely to you.

To contribute to the archives, please contact us at Archives@SixMileLake.net

Student for Environment

Our Environment Committee has obtained a grant from the Township of Georgian Bay to hire one summer student so that we can conduct an analysis of SML as it pertains to algae growth and its impact on water quality. Ideally, we need to hire two students, which means we will need to raise additional funds. Part of the project is following up on our Eurasian Milfoil survey of 2015 and a previous Muskoka District survey of Six Mile Lake shorelines. This would be a perfect opportunity for a junior cottager on the lake who is studying science and is interested in environmental concerns. It would also be an ideal position for a co-op student. The use of one’s own boat may be required, but the successful candidate would be compensated for their fuel costs. If you’re interested, please contact us at Info@sixmilelake.net. If you would like to help fund this important endeavour, please let us know.

Echoes Book Reprinting

The SMLCA Board has agreed to re-print the award winning book entitled “Echoes of Six Mile Lake” (published in 2009) that traced the history and development of Six Mile Lake. Originally a hard cover book at a cost of $70 per book for a print run of 1500 copies, this second limited number edition will be a soft cover book (with no additions or revisions) with a lower price than the original book.

To judge the number of books we’ll order (and thus determine a final price) we need to start collecting a list of names of cottagers who’ll be interested in purchasing an additional book(s) or their first copy. The names we collect at this point will be first in line for agreeing to place a deposit (at a later time this spring) on their order to pay for the printing run.

Don’t be disappointed again, get your name on the “reserve me a book list” now by filling in our online registration form here: https://sixmilelake.net/news/book-preorder/.or contacting us at info@sixmilelake.net

Ice Conditions

Although the ice, this winter has been thicker than normal, it starts to degrade rapidly after the third week of March. Please be safe and avoid travel on the ice. It will be gone in about a month and we can once again get our boats in the water.
